Is it weird that the thing I was looking forward to most all
weekend was my Sunday morning bagel and lox? Either way, I slept in
super late and then stumbled over to this place in the upper east side
called Tal Bagels. My order was simple. I got an everything bagel with
chive, tomato, onion, and of course... lox. The bagel was great. It was
way better than those crap bagels we eat in Chicago. The exterior had
some texture but wasn't overly chewy. The interior was fluffy and soft.
The lox was piled on and wasn't overly salty. It made my weekend.
Then, one day during the week, after a long morning in the OR, I
grabbed a late lunch across from the hospital with some of the
residents. I thought we were getting a slice, but we ended up with a
feast at Patsy's Pizza. We split a big salad with some goat cheese,
walnuts, arugula, and apples to get started. We also got an order of
fried calamari. It had a flaky tempura quality to the fry. Then we split
a pizza with olives and sundried tomatoes. The slices were thin and
brick oven burnt. I wasn't in favor of the tomatoes but was overruled by
my buddies. I thought Grimaldi's was better. One guy was saying that
the Harlem location is way sketchier and way better though for Patsy's.

Later that night I ordered some Chinese takeout. I was clueless and
just found some place on Seamless called Our Place. It was a little bit
of a walk. I just got a spring roll and some beef lo mein. The spring
roll was amazing. The pieces of shrimp were just exploding with flavor. I
really don't know what it was that made it so good. The beef lo mein on
the other hand, besides being cheap and huge, was not very good. It was
so damn salty.
